Ni Zan's "lion forest map"

Out of the flower basket hall or five pine garden, along the corridor can reach the genuine Pavilion. On the left side of the gallery, there is a stone inscription on the panorama of lion forest. The picture was Hongwu six years (AD 1373), and was invited by the famous painter of mountains and waters, Ni Zan, who was invited by the sea.

Ni Zan (1301 - 1374) and Zhao Yuan completed the lion forest map in 1373. They are now hosting the the Imperial Palace Museum in Beijing. Lion Grove is still alive today, but after many transformations, it is far from the scenery painted in the picture.

Qian Long twelve years (1747) Ni Zan's "the lion forest map" introduced to the court, the emperor Qian Long, even more than Zhao Mengtiao's "magpie color of the magpie", he wrote the blanks in the blank inscription full of inscriptions, and had a copy of his hand. Emperor Qian Long had always thought that the lion forest was the garden of Ni Zan's family. It was long ago, and later learned that the garden was in Suzhou, and still surviving. It was still overjoyed. In 1757, the second Southern tour was carried by Ni Zan to Suzhou on the spot, and the purpose of the garden was rebuilt. Qianlong regrets: "although the site has been retained, has repeatedly been Huang's garden, today can still be referred to as the lion forest, depending solely on the temple. The spirit of calligraphy, the spring of spring, is immortal and the land is transmitted by people. Qianlong was very similar to Wang Shimao's thought, and he really found "Tongling Baoyu" and made it useful. The Lion Forest in reality is immortal by the lion forest map.

The rebuilt lion forest can be seen from the engraving of the "South Tour event" and the palace painter Qian Weicheng's "the panorama of the teacher and forest", all of which were drawn by the life of Qianlong. The engraving in the southern tour is relatively accurate, and the mountains and rivers in the money map are more exaggerated, similar to the "forty scenes of Old Summer Palace". In fact, there are no such towering peaks in the garden. At this point, Emperor Qian Long still felt that he was still in the air, and that the lion forest built a garden in the Old Summer Palace and Mountain Resort. After all, Jiangnan can only go there once a few years, and it can be visited anytime near the imperial city. This award is not inseparable from lion forest map.

Around this time, Wang Hui, Yun Nantian, Zhang Dongshe, Huang Ding and Fang Cong in Qing Dynasty painted the lion forest map and presented them to the monks in the temple. Most of them are related to Ni Zan. The painters painted the lion forest not seen with their own eyes, but the Lion Forest in Ni Zan's works. From this, we can deeply feel the importance of painter's reputation and personality charm. Although Yuan Jiang's "Dongyuan map" draws like it, it can not have such influence as Ni Zan's "lion forest map".

Finally, let's make a simple tour of the historical changes of this famous garden by means of several plane sketch maps based on the restoration of paintings in different times. From the comparison of the plans of different periods, we can see that the scope of the lion forest has been changing, the scale is gradually expanding and the buildings are becoming denser. In 1757, when Emperor Qian Long and Qian Weicheng traveled in the lion forest, it was agreed that nee Zan's "lion forest map" depicted only one corner of the garden. Qian said, "Yunlin painted a corner, so called as not a person." he called his paintings "the panorama of the teacher and forest". In order to save the true colors of Mount Lu, the whole lion forest will be complementing. Qianlong said in the lion forest diagram of Qian Wei Cheng, "one corner of the lion's forest is still unfinished, and it has been added to the whole scene." The misunderstanding of Ni Zan's "lion forest map" is so beginning, because it can not cover the lion forest that people see later, so it is regarded as a freehand work. But in fact, when he was drawing, the lion forest was only so large. In the early two garden notes, there were no scenes in the picture.

Fortunately, after years of vicissitudes, the mountain peak behind Nei Zan's "Lion Grove" has been preserved. To this day, we can still see the houses on the mountains and the strange peaks and strange rocks around them, as if this masterpiece has passed through hundreds of years, and the avatar is standing in front of the viewer.
